SAN DIEGO, Jan. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sotera Wireless today announced it has surpassed the 1 million hour mark in its collection of high-fidelity patient data, thereby achieving the most comprehensive data set compiled from a wearable monitor for medical-surgical hospital patients. The de-identified vital sign data -- collected from more than 35,000 patients monitored by Sotera's ViSi Mobile® System and stored in a cloud-computing database -- has already been used to improved alarm management in hospitals and will pave the way for additional patient care benefits.

The ViSi Mobile System is a wearable platform that continuously monitors all patient vital signs and wirelessly communicates data to clinicians. Sophisticated system alerts can be tailored to notify clinicians of fluctuations that signal deterioration in a patient's health. This use of surveillance monitoring promotes successful response to rescue situations and prevention of adverse events.
In a study published last year in The Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing, Sotera validated its approach to data collection against two previously published datasets. The study demonstrated how the collected data drove the development of powerful analytical tools used to support evidence-based alarm management. ViSi Mobile System users currently utilize the methodology, which is consistent with and directly supportive of the U.S. Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal 06.01.01, to reduce alarm fatigue without sacrificing the ability to continually monitor all vital signs.
