South Florida Technology Alliance Names Joe Monaco of Level 3 Communications to Board of Directors
MIAMI and FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The South Florida Technology Alliance (SFTA) today announced that Joe Monaco, South Florida general manager for Level 3 Communications, has joined the SFTA's board of directors.
In announcing the appointment, SFTA president Albert Maggio pointed to Joe Monaco's long career in telecommunications, his reputation in local business circles as a prominent and highly respected tech executive, and his commitment to SFTA's mission of promoting the growth and success of South Florida's technology community.
"The SFTA is pleased to welcome Joe Monaco of Level 3 Communications as its newest board member. Over the past year, Joe has demonstrated his commitment to help lead the organization in delivering outstanding value to our stakeholders," said Maggio. "As Level 3's senior regional executive, the skills which Joe has developed over his extensive and accomplished tech industry career will help the SFTA continue to support the growth of the technology ecosystem in South Florida."
"It is a profound honor to have been selected to join SFTA's board of directors. The SFTA is a recognized leader in promoting technology and innovation among South Florida's businesses, universities, governments and local communities," said Joe Monaco. "This mission directly aligns with Level 3's goal of offering communications solutions on a local level, and joining the board will enable me to contribute my passion for South Florida and take an even more active role in this mission."
Prior to joining Level 3 in February 2010 as the general manager of the South Florida Market, Joe began his career on Wall Street as a securities broker. Following a move to the South Florida area, he shifted his career focus to the telecommunications and data industry, where he joined MCI in its Boca Raton, Florida office and managed medium and large enterprise accounts.
Not long after his success at MCI, Joe Monaco was hand selected by Deltacom as a regional sales manager for the South Florida market and, following his increased revenue generation for the company, was quickly promoted to regional vice president, the youngest in Deltacom history. Now managing the South Florida region for Level 3, Joe Monaco has established the company's presence within the local market, cultivating a strong focus on increasing brand awareness and adding new customers using the robust portfolio of Level 3's high-quality video, voice and data services.
