South Korean Independent System Operator ABN Selects ARRIS SDV Solution to Expand its HD Linear and VOD Programming
First commercial deployment of the ARRIS switched digital video in South Korea powers the delivery of high-margin cable services
SUWANEE, Ga., Sept. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ARRIS Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARRS), today announced that its Switched Digital Video (SDV) solution is being deployed by South Korea's largest independent system operator, Areum Broadcasting Network (ABN), to deliver new, premium programming to its subscribers in SeongNam City. The independent cable operator will rely on the ARRIS SDV solution to increase both the amount and visual clarity of its most popular HD programming, such as broadcasts of international sporting events and VOD services.
The deployed SDV solution is based on the ARRIS software based video control plane, CVEx™ platform, which provides true convergence between RF and IP video transport. The solution also includes a comprehensive suite of Management, Reporting and Optimization Software to enable smooth deployment. The ARRIS SDV solution was tailored for the local Korean ecosystem and integrated with the local EPG, Middleware and Set-Top-Box vendor solutions to provide a standard solution for all Korean cable operators. The ARRIS SDV deployment at ABN also leverages the industry's most widely deployed SDV QAM platform, the ARRIS BEQ™ solution. Overall the ARRIS SDV solution continues to lead the market with deployments covering over 39 million homes passed.
ABN's Broadcast TV infrastructure will also leverage the ARRIS SDV solution to drive more efficient utilization of the RF spectrum. The ARRIS SDV server's highly interoperable software optimizes bandwidth utilization, while ensuring that subscribers' experience during channel changes is unaffected.
"Our goal is to provide our customers with the finest programming, video quality and reliability in South Korea," said Mr. Park, the Chief Executive Officer of ABN Cable. "To that end, we have selected the ARRIS SDV solution because it will enable us to deliver peak performance and unmatched choice to our customers at a very competitive cost."
"It is an honor to have been chosen by ABN to help them meet their customer experience goals," said ARRIS Edge Media Processing SVP, Rajive Dhar. "The key to expanding ABN's programming and services is enabling greater bandwidth efficiency. This efficiency will enable ABN to reclaim network capacity and substantially increase HD programming."
