SouthCoast Health Imaging to host 3D mammography mobile coach in Savannah and Hilton Head Island
Hologic Inc.'s motor tour celebrates newest innovations in mammography technology
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C., Nov. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SouthCoast Health Imaging will host Hologic, Inc.'s 3D mammography mobile coach tour bus in Savannah on Wednesday, Nov. 19, and on Hilton Head Island on Thursday, Nov. 20. The bus will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days to share educational information on the benefits of 3D mammography.
The mobile coach will be located outside of Belk locations at Savannah's Oglethorpe Mall (7804 Abercorn St.) and Hilton Head Island (28 Shelter Cove Ln.) on Nov. 19 and 20, respectively. During the free educational events, guests are invited to tour the mobile coach to learn how this groundbreaking 3D technology has become the new standard in breast cancer screenings. 3D mammogram services will not be offered on the mobile coach during these events.
"We're pleased to partner with Hologic, Inc. to share the latest advancements in breast health with members of our communities," said Dr. Patricia Shapiro, head of radiology at SouthCoast Health Imaging. "As the first and most experienced provider of 3D mammography in the region, we are committed to leading the charge in the fight against breast cancer."
Representatives from Hologic, Inc. and SouthCoast Health Imaging will be on board the mobile coach to answer questions and provide health and wellness information for women of all ages. Created by Hologic, Inc., — a leading developer, manufacturer, and supplier of premium diagnostics products, medical imaging systems, and surgical products dedicated to serving the needs of women — the mobile coach has toured the U.S. since March 2013 celebrating the technological advancements of 3D mammography with hundreds of women.
3D mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis, involves the digital production of a 3D image of the breast tissue, which allows physicians to examine the area in fine detail without the confusion of overlapping tissue. Recent studies have shown that the use of this technology has led to a 41 percent increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers and a 15 percent decrease in the number of false positive callbacks.
