Dr. Bradford Picot, lead dentist and founder of SouthEnd Dentistry in Charlotte, North Carolina, volunteered at Charlotte's 36-hour free clinic for those without dental care.
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SouthEnd Dentistry sent Dr. Bradford Picot, the founder and lead dentist, to North Carolina Missions of Mercy's free, 36-hour dental clinic in uptown Charlotte. There, Dr. Picot worked with hundreds of other dentists, along with volunteers, hygienists, and other personnel to provide basic dental care to thousands of people without dental insurance or access to dental care. Over the 36 hour period, the group of dentists with NCMM provided more than one million dollars in free care to the Charlotte community. Lines backed up out of the Charlotte Convention Center hours before the clinic opened.

Dr. Picot of SouthEnd Dentistry, located in the Southern Charlotte, said the event was a "call to action," and acknowledged that there can be "financial barriers" to people getting the dental care they need. With thousands of people in the state with no dental insurance still, this event was a godsend for many as they streamed into the so-called "pop-up clinic" set up and managed by North Carolina Missions of Mercy. Many people who came to the clinic said they didn't have anywhere else to turn for their dental issues. This project gave those with pressing dental needs a place to find the relief they were looking for.
SouthEnd Dentistry tries to exemplify the kind of community service that changes lives. The NCMM's "pop-up clinic" was an opportunity that SouthEnd dentist Picot couldn't resist. As a dentist committed to overall community health and dental hygiene, Picot has volunteered for many educational events and other community research projects, but his time at the free clinic was his most rewarding experience, he says. Being able to help people when they need it most is one of the reasons Dr. Picot decided to study for a Doctorate in Dental Surgery at the University of North Carolina after he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at the same school.
SouthEnd Dentistry has become one of the most recognizable dental offices in southern Charlotte. By showing up at events such as NCMM's "pop-up clinic," Dr. Picot and his staff have shown the community the kind of dental care that they can expect from their office.
