Southern Michigan Bancorp, Inc. Announces Fourth Quarter And Full Year 2014 Earnings

COLDWATER, Mich., Feb. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern Michigan Bancorp, Inc. (OTCQB: SOMC) reported record net income of $4,792,000 for 2014 compared to $4,499,000 for 2013, an increase of $293,000, or 6.5%.  Earnings per share were $1.99 for 2014 compared to $1.88 in 2013.  Fourth quarter 2013 net income was $1,252,000, or $0.51 per share, compared to $1,158,000, or $0.49 per share in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Total consolidated assets at December 31, 2014 were $543.3 million compared to $539.5 million at December 31, 2013.   Total loans reached a record high of $410.1 million as of December 31, 2014, an increase of 6.2% over December 31, 2013.

Southern provided $400,000 for loan losses in 2014, with an allowance for loan losses at December 31, 2014 of $5,177,000, or 1.26% of loans.  This compared to a provision for loan losses of $750,000 for 2013, with an allowance for loan losses at December 31, 2013 of $5,238,000, or 1.36% of loans.  The decrease in the provision for loan losses resulted from a reduction in net charge-offs and reduced delinquencies offset by loan growth in the commercial loan portfolio.  Net charge-offs for 2014 totaled $461,000, or .11% of loans, down from $967,000, or .25% of loans in 2013. 

The annualized return on average assets for 2014 was 0.87% compared to 0.84% for 2013.  The annualized return on average equity was 8.12% for 2014 compared to 8.01% for 2013.
