Southern Vegetable Company Offers Relief to Flood Victims
Nashville Community Receives Donated Veggies from Allens, Inc.
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to last weekend's fatal flooding in middle Tennessee, southern company Allens, Inc. has donated over 70,000 cans of vegetables to families affected by the natural disaster. The largest privately-held vegetable company in the nation, Allens places high value in community outreach and support. Based in Arkansas and neighboring Tennessee, the vegetables were delivered to Nashville-area families late last week.
Shipping over two truckloads or just above 4,000 cases, the donated Allens canned vegetables will put one week's worth of food on the table for an estimated 7,000 families. "Families and individuals affected by this devastating flood are shining examples of strength and perseverance," shared Rick Allen, Chairman and CEO, Allens, Inc. "The very least we can do to support them is to provide non- perishable vegetables to help keep their health and spirits up during these difficult times."
Middle Tennessee, as well as parts of Kentucky and Mississippi, has sustained significant setbacks from the May 1 flood. Thirty fatalities have been reported, hundreds have been evacuated and thousands of families and businesses have taken a hit. Nashville officials report an estimated $1.4 billion in damage and are asking the public for donations ranging from clothing to temporary housing.
