SouvNear Inc. Launches Wholesale Platform for Sourcing Handmade Décor and Gifts from India

SouvNear is known for retailing contemporary, daily-use products designed using retro, old-world arts and crafts of rural and tribal India in US and Europe. To build robust supply chains and processes, SouvNear launched itself via established ecommerce platforms like Amazon and eBay. Till date SouvNear has sold more than 100,000 units for a combined sales of over USD 3 Million. This year, the brand will appoint resellers to sell for them on these platforms, essentially handing over their retail sale arm to third-party online retailers while adding an arm for offline gift shop retailers.

Selling Souvenirs on "SouvNear"

"The word 'SouvNear'", explained Harvinder Mavi, President and Co-Founder, "was coined from two words, 'souvenir' and 'near' because that's what we do – bringing souvenirs closer to consumers. Our vision is to consolidate the work of Indian artisans and make it available worldwide in bulk. India alone has more than 9 million artisans and we have started organizing their work and arts on the platform". This is the second startup for Mavi. Earlier, he had co-founded Agilyst Inc., a KPO in the telecom world, servicing Fortune 50 clients. Agilyst was acquired by EClerx in 2012.

Disrupting Wholesale

"SouvNear has built the single largest platform for trading of Indian handmade goods. Our wholesale platform has the ease-of-use of a regular ecommerce site. Also, we bulk-break our minimums, which helps retailers increase their spread without adding to inventory-carrying costs. We thrive on reorders and in increasing the throughput of our channel partners", Mavi elaborated.

"As we eliminate the layers of wholesalers, distributers and buying houses, our retail partners enjoy significantly higher profits. We enable cart-checkouts at very low thresholds and all costs are inclusive of shipping. There's a promise for damaged goods to be returned and replaced/refunded", he added.

In two years of retailing, the company achieved a month-on-month growth rate of over 25% and managed to provide sustenance to artisans by selling their wares to customers globally. "Our retailing experience has educated us about the market and the needs of retailers who sell handmade. We now want to step up and make a bigger impact with a global wholesale platform", concluded Mavi.
