Space Coast Pride Festival Weekend, September 25-27, in Melbourne, Florida
Weekend-long celebration to include live entertainment, vendors, events, and first-ever local Pride parade with the world-famous Key West 'sea-to-sea' flag
MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne, Florida will come alive with color September 25-27 during the 2015 Annual Space Coast Pride Festival (www.spacecoastpride.org). The weekend-long celebration will include events, entertainment, vendors, food & drink, gatherings, and special kids events—and the area's first-ever Pride street parade. Located one hour east of Orlando, Space Coast Pride expects to draw 2,500 people from across the state and throughout the country.
Saturday afternoon, September 26, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. will be the pinnacle of the weekend—the area's first-ever Pride parade and street festival—with indoor and outdoor areas for merchants, musicians and entertainers, food vendors, and a special area just for kids. Parade participants will carry a 100-foot section of the Key West "sea-to-sea" flag, which was introduced in 2003 and spanned 1.25 miles from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean in a showing of openness and pride.
The festival's special guest and parade grand marshal is Barney Frank, the first openly gay Congressman. Additional grand marshals include Mary Meeks, P.A., one of the attorneys instrumental in moving marriage equality forward in Florida; Vicki Nantz, award-winning documentary filmmaker; and Sabrina Taraboletti, who testified before the U.S. Committee on Education and Labor about discrimination against transgender Americans.
