Sparks Grove's Brian Sherwell to Speak on Data Visualization and Implications for Chronic Healthcare Management

ATLANTA, March 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sparks Grove, a division of North Highland, is pleased to announce that Brian Sherwell, Creative Director, will be speaking at the 2014 South by Southwest (SXSW) festival.  Sparks Grove is a strategy and creative firm that provides marketing, communication, digital and design services to some of the world's leading brands.  SXSW is one of the largest festivals of its kind, bringing together interactive, film and music.  Mr. Sherwell will be presenting a session titled "Visualizing Chronic Health Conditions."

The ability to visualize health data has the potential to materially impact disease management. Data visualization is an excellent tool to explain complex diseases and show people more effective ways to manage their health. This is increasingly important as 133 million people, almost 1 out of every 2 adults, have a chronic illness. The talk will center around Brian's own personal experience with using off-the-shelf activity trackers combined with continuous blood sugar monitoring to better understand his blood sugar management regimen through data visualization. He will also expand on how the insights derived from combining data visualization combined with continuous tracking could be used in patient education for chronic health management.

Brian Sherwell has been working in the field of Human Computer Interaction for over 12 years, where he is known as a passionate believer in Human Centered Design. He has overseen work for clients in the telecommunications, financial services, media & entertainment, and consumer products industries; delivering experiences for desktop, mobile, tablet, Xbox, and emerging technologies. Before joining Sparks Grove, Brian was the Director of User Experience at a leading digital agency. He has also conducted research at the Centers for Disease Control and worked at the National Science Foundation where he led a multi-year ethnographic study used in developing AI programs to mimic human intelligence.
