Speakers Focus on Impact of Medical Home on the Community at Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative Stakeholder Meeting

Keynote speakers include HRSA's Mary Wakefield, CMS's Anthony Rodgers

WASHINGTON, June 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Employers who pay for health care, policymakers who regulate the industry, providers who serve patients and the consumers at the center of care will share roles, responsibilities and new insights about the impact of the medical home in the community as the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative convenes its Stakeholder Meeting July 22 in Washington, DC.

"The Patient Centered Medical Home in the Community" is the theme of this working meeting of PCPCC volunteer leadership.  The meeting will be held at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22.  The PCPCC is a coalition of more than 700 organizations representing the nation's business leaders, consumers, primary care physicians and other health care stakeholders, with the shared goal of advancing adoption of the patient centered medical home (PCMH) across the nation.

"Demonstrations of the medical home across the nation share common elements, such as care coordination, enhanced patient access to care and use of health information technology, but the medical home is not a cookie-cutter model," said Edwina Rogers, executive director of the PCPCC.  "Each project is a reflection of the community, region or state that it serves, and by the same token each project transforms the care delivery system and community as the medical home model grows and matures."

Thought leaders from across the health care spectrum will anchor panels spotlighting the medical home's role and impact on the local community at the meeting.  Speakers for the meeting include:

In addition to the panelists, two federal health agency thought leaders with a strong interest in weighing the medical home's impact on federal programs that serve millions of Americans will present at keynote sessions. Mary Wakefield, Ph.D., R.N., will present her keynote at 10 a.m. She is administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that works to fill in the health care gaps for people who live outside the economic and medical mainstream. Anthony Rodgers will present a noon keynote. He is deputy administrator and director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services' new Center for Strategic Planning.
