Spike Lee, Jenn Shaw and Ignition Creative's "$15 Kicks" Selected as Finalist at Cannes Film Festival

LOS ANGELES, April 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Ignition Creative – leading integrated marketing agency – announced that "$15 Kicks", the mini-documentary produced for ESPN Films in partnership with executive producer Spike Lee and director Jenn Shaw, has been selected as a finalist in The American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase and earned a place in the Short Film Corner. Winners will be announced during the 2017 Cannes Film Festival in June.

The prestigious emerging filmmaker competition showcases work from the next generation of creators. 12-20 short films are selected by a panel of distinguished industry judges and aired at The American Pavilion to invited guests attending the festival.

Directed by the award winning and respected Jenn Shaw, Ignition – led by its executive producer of physical production, Dannielle Dormer – steered the research, creative process and production. In partnership with Shaw, Ignition delivered full execution of the documentary within the "Spike Lee Lil Joints" series.

Featuring former NBA star Stephon Marbury's journey in 2006 to endorse a revolutionary low-cost sneaker, "$15 Kicks" is a power-packed examination of Sneakerhead culture, socio-economics and the impact of targeted marketing tactics on young urban communities. This film was created to spark a relevant, passionate conversation about the delicate balance between social responsibility and the products we crave as consumers. In June 2016, "$15 Kicks" was featured on ESPN SportsCenter and on Spike Lee's and ESPN FILMS' joint web series "UNDEFEATED". 

Cannes Film Festival is one of several accolades the documentary has received to date, including, winning the coveted Black Reel Award and a nomination for Best Short Documentary at the 2017 Cayman Island International Film Festival.
