SPOKANE, Wash., April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- There are 2 states that have legalized the use of recreational marijuana: the states of Washington & Colorado. In the great Northwest, we have Spokannabis Fest, perhaps the biggest and best two-day music, comedy, and weed-smoking event of them all.
It's being held at Chamokane Creek Pines, a rustic campground just 40 minutes northwest of Spokane, on Aug. 30-31. The fun starts at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and runs through 11 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $30 for one day and $50 for the entire weekend. Camping is available also.
Packages costing $300-1,750 are available to vendors who would like to lease space for the weekend.
"There will be plenty of vendors selling marijuana accessories and paraphernalia, and lots of food vendors, too. You can camp out under the stars and smoke all weekend. It's a great time," said promoter Michael Antler.
Alcohol is strictly prohibited at the event; it cannot be brought in or purchased. Also, there will be no marijuana sales at the event. Per Washington state law, attendees are permitted to bring and consume pot at the festival.
Saturday's events include rock music, a Wet T-Shirt Contest and a K-Y Jelly Wrestling Competition. For both competitions, there is a $1,000 first prize.
Sunday kicks off with a big-name rock band at 11 a.m., followed by the Spokannabis Fest Cannabis Cup. Celebrity judges vote on the best types of cannabis at the festival as selected by the audience via Twitter. First prize is $10,000 and the entry fee is $250, which will go up on June 1.
There's more live music at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., followed by a comedian at 9 p.m. See www.spokannabisfest.com for the complete schedule.
An undertaking of this kind requires rental fees, security, portable laboratories and ATMs, not to mention prize money and payment for the performers. Antler is estimating the final tab to be around $200,000 and he has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds.
Festival supporters can visit the Indiegogo site at www.indiegogo.com/projects/spokannabis-fest-14/x/5562496 and back the event by prepaying for tickets, camping passes and special VIP packages.
"We need some help to get this event off the ground," said Antler, "but it will be well worth it."
