Sports And The Technology Evolution - Transforming The Fan Experience And How The Game Is Played

MIAMI, Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Professional sports figures will rub shoulders with computer scientists on October 24, 2013 as The South Florida Technology Alliance (SFTA) and the St. Thomas University School of Law host a business technology education program featuring a panel discussion titled, "Sports and The Technology Evolution - Transforming the Fan Experience and How the Game is Played". 

The program, moderated by Lenny Chesal, CMO & EVP of Business Development of Host.net, will explore how new technologies are transforming the sports fan experience, fundamentally altering how sports games are played.

St. Thomas University boasts one of the top three rated sports administration programs in the country. As evidence of the university's success in this area, alumni from undergraduate and graduate programs hold executive positions in the MLB, NFL, NASCAR, NBA, and other organizations.

Preceding the panel discussion is a pre-event presentation by Dr. Wim Steelant, the Dean of Science, and Dr. Lu Wang, Assistant Professor in Computer Science who will highlight how the school focuses on student learning with advanced technology, modern academic programs and individualized hands-on scientific training and student-mentor relationships. The university will be making a significant announcement of a new cloud computing facility that will be used for projects related to sports information.  The facility was supported by a grant from IBM that will enable St Thomas University to greatly expand its academic computer science programs.

The event takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at St. Thomas University, 16401 NW 37 Ave, Miami Gardens, FL 33054 with an expected sellout crowd. Well-known figures from the Marlins and the Miami Heat are expected to attend.
