The awards were started in 2009 to recognize excellence in travel blogging and acknowledge the increasing popularity of blogging as a passionate pursuit for thousands of web savvy travelers. An unprecedented number of sports categories, from cricket to rugby, snow-boarding to ice hockey, were included in this year's awards, reflecting a growing preference amongst travelers for more energetic vacations. Additional adventure categories included polar exploration, survival, extreme sports and Formula One.
The awards were judged by a panel of travel experts who searched the Internet for the very best blogs across 100 different travel categories. The blogs were then short-listed taking into account factors such as content, expertise, tone and design. Over 1,000 sites were singled out for travel blogging excellence. The full list of winning sites can be found on the Tripbase website.
"We've noticed a strong correlation between sports and travel and wanted to reflect this in this year's blog awards. More and more travelers are leaning to more active vacations and luckily have a superb selection of relevant blogs to consult before they travel," said CEO and co-Founder, Reuven Levitt. With over 1,000 winning blogs to choose from, we're confident that every kind of traveler will find a site to suit their needs and, ultimately, the travel experience that's perfect for them."
