Spotlight on Veterans Across America at First Annual Awards for Work with Disabled Veterans and Their Families
NEW YORK, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Family Delta Force Program, which deploys teams of volunteers, as well as the mothers and spouses of wounded warriors to provide economic well-being and emotional services, received CAAID's annual "Achievers Award" for its work with veterans wounded and disabled in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Family Delta Force Program operates within Veterans Across America, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to helping veterans transition from military service to productive civilian employment.
This award was accepted by Veterans Across America's Director of Development, Peter Kim, a former Marine who himself was disabled while serving in Iraq. Corporate Achievers Awards for Individuals With Disabilities (CAAID), is a Federally registered not-for-profit with offices in New York and Longwood, FL.
Veterans Across America Chairman Ricardo Sanchez, the former Commanding General of All Multi-Forces in Iraq, noted that the organization operates a range of programs, including comprehensive one-on-one Champion Mentoring, which links veterans with successful businessmen and women. This provides the critical networks vital to employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
"This award is especially poignant during the Memorial Day remembrance," he said, "as it reminds us that when the soldier goes to war, the whole family goes to war. Often, family caregivers must leave their own jobs or businesses for full-time devotion to care for their loved ones, at times for many years."
General Sanchez also noted that advances in medicine and technology have helped today's veteran survive wounds and disability as never before in history.
Wesley Poriotis, founder of Veterans Across America added: "We take special pride for CAAID's spotlight on the Family Delta Force Program. Even when we hear and read about events in Iraq and Afghanistan, it seems that political, economic and even social news crowd media attention away from the rigors of life for the wounded and disabled. There has been far too little focus on causal connections between economic helplessness and emotional hopelessness. So we applaud CAAID for this recognition as they applaud the work of our mission to enhance the economic-well-being of veterans and their families."
The first annual CAAID event received notable sponsorship support from Pfizer, McGraw-Hill, Colgate-Palmolive, MetLife, City University of New York, New York State, the U.S. Department of Labor, Pernod-Ricard, and the New York Military in New York City.
