
PITTSBURGH, July 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh's local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators has opened nominations for its Business Communicator of the Year award for 2011. Now in its eighth year, the award recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions in practicing, promoting, and/or enhancing professional business communicators in the Western Pennsylvania region.

IABC/Pittsburgh is asking its members, as well as the Pittsburgh community, to identify and honor exceptional communicators who have led by example and inspired those around them in the workplace or in a volunteer setting.
Nominees can be individuals with special communication achievements between January 1, 2010, and March 31, 2011, or individuals with outstanding communications reputations who retired during that same time period.
Previous winners have been
- Dr. Carol Utay, Executive Director, Total Learning Centers, Inc.
- Michael L. Koff, senior manager Corporate Communications & Government Affairs (retired), Sony Electronics Inc.
- Robert O'Gara, Professor and Director of the Integrated Marketing Communications Program at Point Park University
- Gregory S. Babe, president and CEO of Bayer MaterialScience LLC
- Robert Hill, vice chancellor for public affairs at the University of Pittsburgh
- Debra Foster, vice president of corporate communication of H.J. Heinz Company and
- Rose Gabbianelli, senior vice president and director of corporate affairs for Mellon Financial Corporation.

Candidates for this honor should be:
- professional business communicators who inspire, establish, or support the highest standards of quality and innovation in organizational communication, or
- organization leaders (profit or nonprofit) who foster communication excellence by initiating, directing, supporting, or sustaining outstanding and effective communication programs.
The winner will be selected by a committee of IABC/Pittsburgh, and honored at the 32nd annual Golden Triangle Awards dinner in October 2011.
