Effective May 1, 2013, Robert M. Littman, CPA, M.T., will become the firm's chief executive officer, with complete oversight of the day-to-day operations at the full-service certified public accounting, business advisory, and management consulting firm. Gary S. Shamis, CPA, M.Acc., who has had this responsibility since 1986, will become senior managing director of SS&G and focus on the continued execution of the firm's expansion plans and strategic growth initiatives. Shamis will also remain president of SS&G, Inc. and will continue to serve on the firm's executive and finance committees.
Mark A. Goldfarb, CPA, is also an intricate part of this leadership transition process. He now becomes the firm's senior managing director and maintains co-supervision of SS&G's Akron office while still continuing to serve on the firm's finance and executive committees. He will continue to provide senior counsel to clients on a wide range of tax, estate, and succession planning matters.
"SS&G has enjoyed superb growth over the years," said Shamis. "Last month, Accounting Today ranked us among the top 40 accounting firms in the country. We now have more than 500 professionals counseling clients across the county – from large healthcare organization to leaders in the restaurant and technology sectors. Through this thoughtful and deliberate leadership transition, we ensure the firm continues to deliver the highest quality of service our clients have come to expect while positioning us for continued long-term growth as one of the nation's premier accounting and consulting firms."
Littman joined SS&G as a manager in 1985. Since 1990, he has co-led the firm's Akron office and been active with the firm's executive, finance, and personnel committees. He has been working with Shamis and Goldfarb on the transition plan for 16 months.
"Thanks to the stewardship of Gary and Mark, and the efforts of all our teams at SS&G, we enter a new era of growth with significant momentum," said Littman. "I sincerely appreciate the trust that is being placed in me and look forward to helping the team build upon the firm's success."
Littman is chairman of the Akron Zoological Park, serves on the board of directors for the Akron Children's Hospital Foundation, is an executive committee member of The City Club of Cleveland, and serves on the Rainbow Babies National Leadership Council. He holds membership in the 50 Club of Cleveland and Bluecoats Incorporated of Summit County. He is a graduate of Leadership Akron Class of 1995 and Leadership Cleveland Class of 2009.
Littman received a Master of Taxation from The University of Akron and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Arizona. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of CPAs.
