St. Louis Artist Recognized For His Decades at the Muny
ST. LOUIS, May 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, May 29, James Cassidy was presented with a plaque for his contributions to the arts in Missouri by Dennis Reagan, President and CEO of The Muny and Sean Smith, Director of Operations. Cassidy worked for 37 years as a scenic artist for The Muny, America's oldest and largest outdoor musical theatre.
Reagan was contacted by Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of Missouri to grant Cassidy a lasting legacy as part of his care at the hospice. The Muny's theater program will also recognize Mr. Cassidy for his work.
"He and I came to The Muny around the same time," Reagan recalls. "He has been a constant fixture in the Muny family and his contributions are great to all 322 productions he painted for, taking people around the world with his scenic art."
Cassidy's son, Steven Cassidy, worked side by side with his father at the Muny for several shows. 'The Music Man' stands out as a favorite play both father and son painted scenery for and watched together.
"My father has always been great at painting a wide range of styles," Steven Cassidy comments. "He loved to paint in his basement in his free time."
James Cassidy also taught art for the Ladue school district in St. Louis, MO for 30 years.
