Stagg Family honored for support of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Mark Stagg of Stagg Group and family to receive award for outstanding Volunteerism and Community outreach
WESTCHESTER, N.Y., April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Westchester and Fairfield chapters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation are getting ready to honor the Stagg Family of Purchase, NY on April 26 at the 2014 Crystal Ball in Greenwich, CT. At the ball, Mark and Theresa Stagg along with their five children Ryan, Tyler, Justin, Amanda, and Ashley, will receive the Inaugural Founders Award for outstanding volunteerism and community outreach for the whole family's contributions to the JDRF over the past decade.
"Service and giving back to our community is something that I wanted to instill in my children," says Mark with regard to the award his family is due to receive. Mark Stagg is founder and president of the Stagg Group, a development, construction and management company that focuses on quality affordable housing in the New York area. Service and giving back to the community are principles that Mark has instilled as core values at Stagg Group. The company's primary focus is providing new and quality housing to moderate and lower income families. Stagg Group is also known for its community outreach, through activities as diverse as sponsoring holiday toy giveaways, to employing and providing housing for veterans.
Both Mark and Theresa Stagg have served on the board of the Westchester chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Theresa is currently the outreach chair. The Stagg children have all helped support JDRF activities in one way or another, through volunteering at the JDRF Westchester office, at the Walk to Cure Diabetes events as well as through helping raise awareness of the cause. The Stagg Family began to donate their time to the JDRF in 2003 after Amanda Stagg was diagnosed with type-one diabetes. Since then, the Stagg family has helped to raise over $350,000 and counting for T1D Research through Walk, Golf and Gala events.
"I am extremely proud of all of my children. They have always rallied around Amanda and have always been supportive. They understand how difficult it is for her at times, but they have not allowed Type 1 to define who she is; it is something that she just has, " said Theresa Stagg.
In 2013, the Westchester and Fairfield Chapters of JDRF have raised over 3 million dollars for diabetes research thanks to support from both corporate and family sponsors. The annual Crystal Ball Fundraiser will feature dinner and dancing with benefits going to Fund A Cure.
The Stagg family will continue to promote awareness throughout our community until a cure is found. "We are thankful to everyone who has supported us all of these years. We are hopeful that JDRF will find the cure for Amanda and others diagnosed with Type 1."
