Star Wars: Episode VIII, Blade Runner 2049, And Alien: Covenant Voted By Film Critics Nationwide As 2017's Most Anticipated Movies According To Rotten Tomatoes Survey

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Rotten Tomatoes, the leading online aggregator of professional movie and TV reviews, surveyed hundreds of Tomatometer-approved critics across the country this past December to forecast the "freshest" movies of 2017.  As voted across all film genres, the most anticipated movies were the upcoming sci-fi movies, Star Wars: Episode VIII, Blade Runner 2049 and Alien: Covenant

The Lego Batman Movie led the Family category, followed by Beauty and the Beast, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 dominated the Comic Book Adaptation category, with Logan and Wonder Woman in the second and third positions, respectively. In the category of Reboot/Remake films, Kong: Skull Island and Spider-Man: Homecoming led the pack.

"As critics look at 2017's slate of sequels and adaptations, the new chapters in classic franchises are the films that have caught the most attention," said Rotten Tomatoes Editor-in-Chief, Matt Atchity.  "George Lucas and Ridley Scott brought new respect to the oft-maligned science fiction genre in the 70s and 80s, so it's easy to understand why the latest chapters of Star Wars, Blade Runner and Alien are generating the most excitement amongst critics."
