State of Florida's 2011 Legislative Session Modifies Condo Board Members Continuing Education Requirement
PLANTATION, Fla., May 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Under Florida Statute Section 718.112 newly elected or appointed condominium board officers and directors must provide written certification of their knowledge of Florida condominium law and their association's bylaws. In lieu of this certification, board members may "submit a certificate of having satisfactorily completed the educational curriculum administered by a division-approved condominium education provider within 1 year before or 90 days after the date of election or appointment."
Florida's Division of Condominium, Timeshares, and Mobile Homes has approved online training as a path to qualifying for condominium board service. Responding to recent amendments to Florida's Condominium Act, the Division seeks to ensure that condominium association officers and directors are properly qualified for positions that are equivalent to those of corporate officers.
To satisfy the new state requirement, condominium association officers and directors may now take the state-approved online course, "Condominium Operations: A Primer for Directors and Officers," developed by e-learning professionals at The Human Equation, a State of Florida-approved education provider of condominium training. The two-hour interactive course, written in everyday language and covering such essential topics as balancing rights and responsibilities of residents, conducting elections, and holding association meetings, may be accessed 24/7 from any Internet-connected computer. Users may pause and resume the course at their leisure, and, upon completing the course, receive a certificate they can submit to qualify for board service.
Company President Anita Byer notes that the Condominium Operations course, one of nine condominium training courses developed by The Human Equation, "provides a convenient and affordable solution for acquiring the knowledge needed to govern effectively." The goal of the course, according to Ms. Byer, is, "to empower condominium board members with the knowledge they need to limit conflict and improve relations among residents."
