Stateless Networks Builds Team To Tackle Automation And Management For Data Center Networks, Cloud Networking
Upstart Adds Cloud Computing Alumni From Dell And Amazon To Executive Team
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Stateless Networks, a software company bringing dynamic automation and intelligence capabilities to network operations, today announced Chris Brown as the Vice President of Engineering.
Brown was a Founding Member, Architect and Lead Developer for Amazon.com's Elastic Compute Cloud ("EC2") and will lead the development efforts of Stateless Networks' network management and automation product. Most recently he was the VP of Engineering for Chef (formerly Opscode) – a company backed by Amplify Partners, Battery Ventures, Citibank, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Scale Venture Partners and Ignition Partners that is a leader in configuration management and IT automation. Previous to Opscode and Amazon, Brown was Director of Engineering for the Edge Computing Network within Global Foundation Services and for Microsoft.
Also joining the team is DevOps expert John Willis as the VP of Customer Enablement. Willis, a 30-year systems management veteran, joins Stateless Networks from Dell where he was Chief DevOps evangelist. Willis, a noted expert on agile philosophies in systems management, came to Dell as part of their Enstratius acquisition. At Enstratius, Willis was the VP of Customer Enablement responsible for product support and services for the multi-cloud management platform. During his career, he has held positions at Opscode and also founded Gulf Breeze Software, an award-winning IBM business partner specializing in deploying Tivoli technology for the enterprise.
"We are finally at a point where network virtualization and the hyperscale required by cloud computing is pushing operators to create increasingly dynamic networks to adapt to the demands of ephemeral infrastructure and more sophisticated quality of service," explains Chris Brown. "Networking has been the bottleneck for data applications, and Stateless is in a unique position to leverage emerging capabilities provided by open network hardware operating systems and SDN to automate the response to changing network conditions and react in seconds rather than hours, days or weeks."
"We are building the new management layer for the new network, one which provides applications the network resources they require, and automates the processes underneath with awareness of all parts of the network, providing resiliency and ensuring performance," said Stateless Networks CEO, Kelly Wanser. "This approach is what allows Google and Facebook to operate effectively at hyperscale, and our intent is to enable the same capabilities for every enterprise. John and Chris are proven leaders in this field, and their expertise will help us build the next-generation management platform that brings an infrastructure as code philosophy to the network."
"I have seen in great detail how DevOps methodologies have revolutionized the enterprise and cloud computing industries, providing a philosophy and change in culture that is enabling companies like Facebook, Google, Twitter and many others to realize more value in the their server infrastructure," said John Willis. "Stateless Networks is in a unique position to bring that same revolutionary approach to network operations by making network data actionable and make near-real-time updates to their topology."
