Statement of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg On Decision By KSL.com To Suspend Classified Gun Listings
Mayor Launched First Ever National Investigation into Illegal Online Gun Sales: http://on.nyc.gov/w1g33s
NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "The decision by KSL classified website to suspend all gun listings on its website is a critical step toward keeping illegal weapons out of the hands of dangerous individuals. Last year our investigators found that unlicensed online gun sellers, including those on KSL, were all too willing to make illegal sales to people who said they could not pass a background check. In the case of KSL, sellers on the website agreed to sell guns to investigators posing as buyers who could not pass a background check a full 67 percent of the time. And just this past October, a shooter in Wisconsin murdered three women with an illegal gun he purchased on Armslist.com – a website where 62 percent of private sellers sold to buyers who couldn't pass a background check. I encourage all classified websites to follow KSL's lead and help keep illegal guns out of our neighborhoods."
