The program supports local charities in the annual convention's host city that do not receive money from the government or the state in order to sustain their mission. This year, GAWDA President Ned Pontious and his wife, Renee, selected STEP as one of two charities in the San Diego region to be the recipients of donated funds to program.
STEP President Tony Teravainen accepted GAWDA's contribution on behalf of the nonprofit. "This generous gift goes a long way toward us helping more young military and veteran families in the Southern California area deal with unexpected financial crises and move beyond today's financial hardship to a future lifetime of financial self-sufficiency," said Teravainen.
STEP provides assistance to help enlisted service members and veterans get through a trying period, make adjustments to meet their commitments, take care of their families and retain their dignity while keeping them on the path to being strong contributing citizens in the Southern California community by helping them build strong long-term financial habits. Areas of assistance include emergency food, rent & mortgage, utilities, auto repair, critical baby items and other emergency assistance.
Warrior Foundation - Freedom Station was the other military-focused nonprofit selected this year by the association to receive contributions from the 'GAWDA Gives Back' program.
Individuals, companies or organizations wishing to help STEP with military and veteran families in financial need throughout the year can make a donation at stepsocal.org or email: [email protected] for more information on how your time, talents or funds can make a difference.
