Steven Kent Introduces 'Lineage'
Debut of "Statement" Bordeaux-style Red from Famed LV Cabernet Producer
LIVERMORE, Calif., April 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With the debut release of "Lineage," the Steven Kent Winery has realized a long-held dream: to produce a "Bordeaux-style" red that ranks among the New World's greatest, most collectable wines. Only one hundred eighteen cases were produced of the initial 2007 Lineage vintage -- drawing upon fruit from the award-winning Ghielmetti Vineyard.
Steven Kent Mirassou, a sixth-generation member of America's oldest winemaking family, has, over the last ten years, built a reputation for his limited release Cabernets. Steven comments that "the goal was always to arrive at this point -- the creation of a single, 'statement' wine from the Livermore Valley, one intended to take its place among the world's great reds."
The Ghielmetti Vineyard occupies 64 terraced acres in the foothill of the historic Livermore Valley appellation. The Ghielmetti family chose this spot, working from Day One to establish LV's "first growth" estate for Bordeaux varieties. Planted over the course of two years in 2001-2002 by well-known Napa consultants Jim Regusci and Cary Gott, the vineyard is home to all five Bordeaux red grapes -- Cabernet Sauvignon (five different clones), Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. The property became the predominant fruit source for the Steven Kent Winery beginning with the 2005 vintage.
Lineage is blended from just five exceptional barrels from Ghielmetti's best "Bordeaux" blocks. The debut 2007 Lineage is comprised of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon (clones 30, 191, and 4), 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, and 2% Merlot. It was bottled in January 2010.

The 2007 Lineage retails for $125 a bottle. Of the barely 100-case production, half has been reserved for future subscribers direct from the winery. A limited number of three-bottle packs have been set aside for wholesale customers, destined primarily for award-winning restaurants. The winery also produced a small number of large format magnums, double magnums, and imperials for collectors and its own library. More information is available at http://www.lineagewine.com
