Still Time for Kids to Cast their Ballot in Scholastic Student Vote

Kids vote in country's longest-running student mock Presidential election

NEW YORK, Sept. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- There is still time for kids under 18 to vote for the next President of the United States in the Scholastic Student Vote! Kids can cast their vote and choose between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney online at www.scholastic.com/vote, or use the paper ballots found in back-to-school issues of Scholastic Classroom Magazines. Online voting closes on October 10^th, and results will be announced before the November election.

The Scholastic Student Vote has been held during every Presidential Election since 1940, and in all but two contests, the outcome of the vote mirrored that of the general election (in 1948 when students chose Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman and in 1960 when more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than John F. Kennedy).

To help students make an informed decision about who they would like to vote for, they can visit the award-winning Scholastic Election 2012 website. This free resource includes background information on the electoral process, fun election-related games and maps, and reporting by the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, a team of more than 50 Kid Reporters from across the country who report "news for kids, by kids."

The Scholastic News Kid Reporters just returned from covering the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.
