Since opening, Stopsky's Delicatessen has won kudos from customers and reviewers alike. The current issue of Bon Appetit magazine named Stopsky's one of the four "Best New Jewish Delicatessens in America."
About Stopsky's Delicatessen: In 1905, four Stopsky brothers from a Jewish shtetl outside Kiev, Ukraine, arrived in the United States to search for the American Dream. To achieve it, they felt they needed to change their last name to something less ethnic. After landing in Boston, they encountered "Sanderson's Fish Market" and decided on the name Sanderson, a "good Yankee name." Gilbert Sanderson, né Stopsky, was the grandfather of Stopsky's owner Jeff Sanderson. To honor family, heritage and community, Stopsky's Delicatessen opened in May 2011. Its focus is on tradition – updated - celebrating Jewish food from around the world, including classics such as pastrami, corned beef, matzoh ball soup, kugel, rye bread, challah, rugelach and a cornucopia of other items to be enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Stopsky's is located at 3016 78th Ave. SE, Mercer Island, Wash. For more information go to www.stopskysdelicatessen.com.
