NEW YORK, Nov. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of STRIVE today announced the selection of Philip Weinberg as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, following an extensive national search. Based in East Harlem, New York, STRIVE is a widely acclaimed workforce development organization with affiliate sites in over 20 cities in the U.S. and abroad, offering transformational job training and employment services to the chronically unemployed.
Prior to joining STRIVE, Mr. Weinberg served as President of the New York City Workforce Investment Board, which is appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to drive, coordinate and oversee workforce development services in New York City, advancing the Mayor's economic and human capital agenda to ensure the availability of skilled workers needed for the city's growth.

We are looking to Philip to help us expand and strengthen STRIVE's resources, programs, and organization to meet the workforce needs of the twenty-first century and to dramatically increase the number of people we serve."
Rob Carmona, a founding member of STRIVE who precedes Weinberg as STRIVE's Chief Executive Officer, will remain with STRIVE where he will lend his considerable passion, expertise and vision to serve as the organization's spokesman, further advancing its public awareness and support.
"STRIVE stands alone in its impact and reach in helping people from the neediest communities gain economic self-sufficiency," said Weinberg. "It's an honor to join this pioneering organization that has been transforming lives in New York and across the country for over twenty-five years. Together with Rob Carmona, the board of directors, and our outstanding team, I look forward to expanding STRIVE's impact so we can help more people transform their lives through the dignity of work."
Weinberg's career has spanned both the public and private sectors, focusing on bringing positive change to workforce and education systems across the country and building world-class social sector organizations. He holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Northwestern University.
