Sairah Burki, SFIG Senior Policy Director, to Serve as Foundation's Executive Director
WASHINGTON, Sept. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Structured Finance Industry Group, Inc. ("SFIG"), a member-based trade industry group focused on improving and strengthening the broader structured finance and securitization market, today announced that it formed the SFIG Foundation, a charitable organization focused on providing youth educational opportunities. The SFIG Foundation is an affiliated organization of SFIG and is an independent 501(c)3 organization.
SFIG will partner with Scholarship America and Mentor Foundation USA to develop and provide scholarship programs for the young people engaged in the Mentor Foundation's programs. The SFIG Foundation scholarships will expand the educational opportunities available for students of Mentor Foundation USA and connect scholarship winners to the significant network of the SFIG membership.
"Since the inception of SFIG, both staff and membership alike have demonstrated a commitment to 'doing the right thing'. You see this evidenced in all of our work, perhaps most notably in spearheading industry diversification efforts with the Women in Securitization program. The creation of the SFIG Foundation is another important initiative asked for and in many ways put together by our members," said Richard Johns, Executive Director of SFIG. "We are very pleased to create an organization that can have a meaningful impact in our community and tap into the depth of generosity, support and commitment of our members."
SFIG will select a Board of Directors. Sairah Burki, Senior Policy Director at SFIG, will lead the SFIG Foundation as Executive Director. She will maintain her current role with SFIG. "I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the important work of the SFIG Foundation. I'm particularly excited to work with Mentor Foundation USA and Scholarship America, thereby increasing the access of underserved youth to educational opportunities. I'm also confident that the scholarship recipients will benefit for many years to come from our membership network."
The SFIG Foundation will hold its first annual fundraising event on January 19, 2017 in New York City at The Plaza. Additional information on the event can be found at sfindustry.org/Foundation.
