NEW YORK, April 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Student Sponsor Partners (SSP) is pleased to announce that it will hold its Sixteenth Annual Founder's Dinner on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at The Pierre Hotel in New York, NY. The event, which will honor Goldman, Sachs & Co. for its continued service and dedication, will feature Mariano Rivera, former Yankees pitcher and founder of The Mariano Rivera Foundation. The Founder's Dinner is held annually to recognize the outstanding contributions of the many individuals that enable SSP to help youth across New York City reach their full potential.
As an SSP partner for 13 years, Goldman, Sachs & Co. has supported an excellent non-public high school education for 1,750 low-income students. Goldman Sachs Gives and 350 of the firm’s employees have generously contributed $7 million toward SSP students’ academic success. Additionally, 750 Goldman Sachs employees have served as mentors to SSP students. Goldman Sachs’ influence is also evident in SSP’s leadership, where four members of the SSP Board of Directors are Goldman Sachs executives. Bill Anderson, Colleen Foster, Pete Lyon, and Lora Robertson have a combined SSP service length of 26 years.
Inspired by the challenges he faced during his childhood, Mariano Rivera started a foundation to provide communities with youth programs focused on health, social development, and economic development. The Mariano Rivera Foundation offers scholarships to qualified children, sponsors youth education centers, and contributes to community initiatives through church-based institutions in the U.S. and Panama.
