Study Reveals Majority Contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Causes

DENVER, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Most people have supported breast cancer awareness within the past 12 months, according to a survey by Memolink (www.memolink.com) of more than 3,500 of its members. Memolink.com is a leading online rewards program.

Five percent of the female Memolink members surveyed have been actually diagnosed with breast cancer, but 67% of both genders have made at least one contribution to the fight against breast cancer in the past 12 months. When asked about their likelihood of ever developing breast cancer, 14% of women considered it somewhat likely while 46% said it was either somewhat, or very unlikely. However, 43% percent of surveyed members have had a family member or close friend that has battled breast cancer.

The top three ways Memolink members have contributed to the cause all included a financial donation:

• Purchasing a pink product with proceeds going to breast cancer research
• Donating money directly
• Purchasing a pink ribbon

Less common ways of contributing included walks and runs, as well as contacting an elected official about relevant legislative issues. While walks and runs are among the most well-known means of raising awareness, just six percent of members had participated in one.

Because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Memolink is asking its members to help the cause by earning points to be donated monetarily. Memolink will make a donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® based on the number of Memolink points earned by members during October. To be doubly supportive, members may also purchase pink products with a portion of proceeds going towards different breast cancer philanthropic organizations. One of the stores participating is AVON.
