Summer Heat Expected To Cause Season-High Spike In Energy Prices Across New York State

WHAT:

With summer heat expected to rise to 2014 highs across most parts of New York State over the next two weeks, energy prices are going to rise along with the temperature.

As residents and businesses brace for the upcoming heat, BlueRock Energy, Inc., the premier provider of electricity, natural gas and green energy products in New York State, is offering expert tips and best practices to help New Yorkers manage energy usage and control price spikes in their energy bills efficiently and effectively.

- Know Your Bill Cycle: unless you have an hourly meter installed from the utility, you must control your load for the entire bill cycle as your total usage is placed in a predetermined profile.  Therefore, lowering your usage during particular times of the day will only be advantageous if you are able to shed that extra load for the entire month. During a period of extreme temperature the importance of knowing when your bill cycle runs and how to protect yourself, is more critical than ever.

- Stagger Usage:  it is important to curb your demand this time of year.  You can do so by running energy intensive equipment at different times.  For example, do not run your dishwasher, dryer, and air conditioner at the same time.  Thinking strategically about what you operate in your house or business can pay dividends.

- Know the Weather: there is no larger contributor to energy prices than the weather.  When we experience several hot days in a row with no cool down during the evening, prices will continue to climb along with the stress on the grid system.  Typically, the afternoon into early evening is the hottest part of the day; which is a direct relationship when energy prices are the highest.
