SunTrust Veteran Tom Kuntz to Retire Following 35 Years of Service

ATLANTA, June 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bill Rogers announced today that Tom Kuntz, SunTrust's Commercial & Business Banking and Geographic Leadership executive, will retire in December 2013 following 35 years of distinguished service.

Wholesale Banking Executive Mark Chancy announced that Beau Cummins will succeed Kuntz and oversee SunTrust's Commercial & Business Banking business.  John Gregg will replace Cummins, assuming leadership responsibilities for SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, the company's corporate and investment banking unit.

"Beau Cummins and John Gregg are both highly respected leaders, inside and outside of SunTrust, and their expertise in their new roles will be critical to our future success," said Chancy.  Cummins and Gregg will report to Chancy.

Kuntz began his career in 1978 with SunTrust's predecessor, SunBank.  He progressed through a series of leadership positions at SunTrust, and he has served as chairman, president and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Florida since 2005.  Active in the community, Kuntz serves on the Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida.  He is a current member and past vice chairman of the Enterprise Florida board of directors, a member of the Scripps Florida Funding Corporation board of directors, the Rollins College Board of Trustees, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando Council of Governors.  He also is an active member of the Florida Council of 100.

Since joining SunTrust in 2005, Cummins has successfully led the growth of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey to be a leading, middle-market investment banking firm.  Previously, he spent 11 years leading various businesses within Bank of America's Global Corporate and Investment bank.  He previously served on the Board of the ABA Securities Association and he is a past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Foreign Exchange Committee.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, and he is past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fine Arts League of the Carolinas.  He earned an MBA from the University of Michigan and is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Gregg joined SunTrust as a managing director in 2006.  He became head of Capital Markets in 2008, and he was named head of Corporate Banking at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in 2012.  Prior to joining SunTrust, he spent 17 years at Bank of America in a variety of leadership positions in loan origination and sales and trading, including managing the European loan syndications business in London and leading the floating rate high-grade syndicate desk.  Gregg is a member of the Board of Trees Atlanta.  He earned an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and a bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University.
