Supply & Demand Chain Executive Recognizes AFN's Superior Supply Chain Services for Fifth Consecutive Year
Company also recognized by Food Logistics Magazine for sustainability excellence for helping customer achieve CO2 emission savings of 4,975 tons in 12-months
NILES, Ill., June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- AFN Logistics, which serves the needs of major manufacturers, top-20 retailers and best-in-class carriers in North America, announced today it has received two awards from prominent supply chain and logistics industry publications, Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics. These include recognition on the SDCE 100 list and the Food Logistics Top Green Providers 2016 list.
Excellence in Supply Chain Services
The SDCE 100 is an annual list of outstanding supply chain projects that show how service providers like AFN help their customers achieve supply chain excellence. AFN was nominated for its work with Ocean Spray, for which AFN was named Ocean Spray's 2015 Partner of the Year. The two have worked in partnership since 2011.
Chris Domey, Senior Logistics Manager at Ocean Spray, said, "AFN's team took a collaborative approach to some of our most challenging lanes, and in spite of the difficulties, achieved a 98.9% acceptance rate while maintaining 95% on-time delivery. AFN achieved these KPIs while taking on one of our most challenging receivers."
AFN received the recognition from Ocean Spray – and in turn, the SDCE 100 award – based on four key areas of evaluation: tangible evidence of success; sustainable achievement over time; performance over and above expectation and the accepted norms; and ambition, innovation and originality. This is the fifth year in a row AFN has won the SDCE 100 award.
Superior Sustainability Practices
Additionally, AFN was named to the Food Logistics Top Green Providers 2016 list, which recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing excelling in sustainability in the food and beverage industry. The company won based on its work for a large bottled beverage company for which it developed a solution including order consolidation, inventory planning and demand forecasting. This reduced the number of shipping days per week from seven to three, resulting in a significant reduction in the total miles traveled annually, the number of trucks on the road and the CO2 footprint of the organization.
Mileage savings and CO2 emission reduction measures were taken on a weekly basis, comparing the old routing parameters against the new routing parameters once the AFN solution was implemented. In a 12 month period, AFN helped the client realize CO2 emission savings of 4,975 tons and a 62.9% mileage reduction totaling 2.2 million miles.
"Transportation has a sizeable carbon footprint, but with today's logistics technology, measures can be taken to mitigate that," said Owen Schnaper, COO of AFN. "Our mission is to help our clients meet their strategic supply chain goals, and increasingly, sustainability efforts are an important area of focus. In fact, implementing sustainable practices simply makes good business sense by reducing unnecessary shipments, ship days and miles. We are proud of the positive environmental and business impact our solutions deliver."
