AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Accomplished Texas appellate lawyer Danica L. Milios, the former Deputy Solicitor General for the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, is joining two of her former state government colleagues in the litigation and appellate practice at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP in Austin.

Ms. Milios served nine years as an Assistant Solicitor General before being named Deputy Solicitor General in 2009, where she worked until joining Sutherland. She started with the Attorney General's Office in tort litigation and spent four years representing the state in personal injury, subrogation and commercial cases.

In her new role, Ms. Milios will be working alongside veteran appellate attorneys Kent C. Sullivan and Sean D. Jordan. Before joining Sutherland, Mr. Sullivan served as a Justice for the Texas Court of Appeals in Houston; a First Assistant Attorney General; and a District Judge. Mr. Jordan previously served as Principal Deputy Solicitor General for the Texas Attorney General's Office.

"Danica is a strong addition to our growing litigation and appellate practices in Texas," said Mark D. Wasserman, Sutherland's managing partner. "Her 17 years defending the State of Texas will be put to great use on behalf of our clients."

Ms. Milios provides appeals experience in Texas appellate courts, federal circuit courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. She was lead attorney on numerous cases in the Texas Supreme Court, including one of the challenges to the state's franchise tax, two condemnation law cases and several Texas Tort Claims Act cases.  She played a major role in the past and current school finance litigation. Her track record also includes work on behalf of Texas in three U.S. Supreme Court cases.

Ms. Milios is an honors graduate of the University of Texas School of Law. She earned her B.S. in political science, magna cum laude, from Texas A&M University. She also served as an intern for former Texas Supreme Court Justice John Cornyn.

"We're thrilled to add another experienced lawyer like Danica to our appellate and litigation group," said Mr. Sullivan, head of the firm's Energy Litigation Team and co-leader of the Appellate Litigation Practice.
