Sweet Green Fields Unveils an Innovation in Enhancing Taste in Stevia and Sugar Sweetened Products
Leading global stevia producer to showcase Natrose Flavor™ at IFT 2015
BELLINGHAM, Wash., July 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sweet Green Fields USA LLC, a leading U.S.-based global producer of stevia extracts, today announced Natrose FlavorTM, a FEMA GRAS™ flavor modifier that acts as a synergist with sugar, stevia extracts and monk fruit. Natrose Flavors can be used in combination with other stevia or plant-derived sweeteners, as well as with sugars to enhance the perception of sweetness, while reducing calories and adding nutritional values. Natrose I is the first commercialized product of the Natrose Flavor family and will be sampled at the Institute of Food Technologies (IFT) 2015 tradeshow in Chicago, booth #3734.
Natrose Flavor blends have the capacity to reduce sugar in food and beverages, and maintain the same clean sugar taste, while reducing the overall sugar levels by 30 – 70 percent. As a natural, zero-calorie and plant-derived clean label sweetener modifier, Natrose Flavor is recommended as an economical choice for food and beverage manufacturers.
"As consumer-demand continues to increase for natural products without artificial colors or flavors, and the costs for ingredient labeling and packaging continue to increase, it is important for us to offer manufacturers an economical solution that tastes great," said Dean Francis, CEO, Sweet Green Fields. "We always work to constantly improve and amplify the value we deliver to our customers. Natrose Flavor alone can achieve a moderate sugar reduction in very broad applications for food and beverage manufacturers who are looking for a natural-tasting clean label solution."
With its high solubility, Natrose Flavor offers a wide spectrum of applications, including in liquid concentrates. Sweet Green Fields conducted blind sensory tests, and results showed Natrose Flavor gives food and beverages a rounded sugar taste at a 30 percent sugar reduction ratio. The sensory result showed the overall taste of the 30 percent sugar reduced lemon and lime drink sweetened with Natrose I was preferred over the full sugar version. Panelists stated, "Natrose I offered an amazing sweet taste that had the sweetness and texture level of sugar, and that also rounded out the fresh flavors."
The synergy of Natrose Flavor with the existing sweetness in the product allows manufacturers to lower the amount of sugar and other plant-derived sweeteners. When blended with stevia extract, Natrose Flavor offers a sweetness that is comparable to sugar, at a lower cost, and removes lingering tastes – increasing the possibilities of usage, while lowering the cost of sweetener production.
