CEO Bjorn Haugland commented, "We're really excited about the new dashboard because it allows users to achieve both focus and overview, simultaneously. That is just one of many features that sets us apart from more conventional task planning applications. We like to think of Symphonical a way to make the serious business of planning not only easier, but also more fun. Our new dashboards are colorful, dynamic and quite powerful."
Symphonical's application, offered in 12 languages, displays information as sticky notes on a whiteboard. Categories assigned to the board's rows and columns help classify and organize notes into a meaningful order. Notes can be color-coded, and characterized as tasks by assigning responsibilities and due dates. Additional text, images, links and attachments can be added and viewed when a note is expanded. This flexibility makes Symphonical suitable for a wide range of applications.
Cloud-based collaboration capabilities like wall sharing and a built-in Google+ Hangouts feature have made Symphonical popular with virtual teams, particularly with software developers and designers who use it for project planning and creative brainstorming. Many also find it valuable for individual use when planning and organizing personal information and tasks. For example, Former White House CIO Carlos Solari uses it to plan projects as well as to outline plots such as the one for his last co-written novel eNikita. Design quality engineers at Whirlpool led by Franz Hartman use it as a virtual global team for visual planning. Members of Michael Landauer's Digital Communities team at the Dallas Morning News track the progress of their reporting assignments on a wall shared with management.
The dashboard presents a consolidated view of tasks (notes) from multiple Symphonical whiteboards, or "walls", displayed in the layout the user chooses: as a to-do list organized by task status, on a calendar arranged by due date, or as a summary of completed tasks. The displayed tasks are dynamic, so users can change a task's properties by dragging it to a new category or date on the dashboard. The calendar can also be synced with applications such as Outlook and Google Calendar.
"Calendar synchronization is something users have requested and we are pleased to offer it in this release," added Haugland.
