Synology(R) Upgrades Economical Network Attached Storage Offerings for Personal and SOHO Use
REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Synology America Corp. today announced the latest release in its economy series of DiskStations: the DS211j and the DS411j. With its low price point and energy requirements, these DiskStations are ideally situated for personal and SOHO use. With the use of scheduled power on/off, users can optimize their energy savings.
"This newest line has Synology showing its continued commitment to bring personal users the same powerful features demanded by business users," said Joshua Wise, senior product specialist at Synology America. "This is absolutely an economical way to combine backups and media sharing in one package."
Running the renowned DiskStation Manager (DSM 3.0), the new personal DiskStations offer the same business-class features and reliability of the professional models to home and SOHO users. Like all DiskStations, the new models offer the same intuitive interface for easy configuration and management, reliable scheduled backups with set-it-and-forget-it simplicity, and simple file sharing.
In addition to the expected NAS duties such as file sharing, RAID redundancy, and remote access, DSM 3.0 offers numerous multimedia services. Photo Station 4 allows users to quickly and easily share photos and videos across the Internet. The DLNA/UPnP compliant media server makes it a snap to stream photos, videos, and music to media players on their network, such as the Playstation 3® or Xbox®.
Additional value is found in Surveillance Station 5, allowing users to quickly turn their NAS into a network video recorder (NVR). With support for over 700 IP camera models, users can quickly create a surveillance system for home use, such as use as a nanny-cam or a video baby monitor.
To further enhance the remote features of the new DiskStations, Synology has released apps for Android and iPhone platforms:
- DS photo+ lets users view and upload photos wherever they are
- DS audio lets users access terabytes of music on the go
- DS cam lets users view and control their surveillance network from anywhere
