Target Hunger Has Launched the 2010 CANnecting With Hunger Canned Vegetable Drive
HOUSTON, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As a way to fill a shortfall of donated food, Target Hunger has launched the 2010 CANnecting with Hunger Canned Vegetable Drive.
The shortfall is a result of increased unemployment, reduced donations, and the skyrocketing cost of food. Target Hunger is currently experiencing a shortage of 5,000 to 6,000 cans of vegetables every month in its 12 food pantries. The 2010 and 2011 campaign will focus on canned vegetables.
CANnecting is a way for corporations, community groups, and schools to make a difference. The next steps are easy: sign up; determine the sites for your campaign; set up a delivery time for Target Hunger to deliver collection barrels and literature; encourage individuals to donate canned vegetables; and call Target Hunger again to schedule a collection date.
Target Hunger, a United Way agency, was established in 1989 as a grassroots, community-based program to combat the growing hunger problem in Houston's inner-city neighborhoods. Each month, Target Hunger distributes food to more than 9,800 needy Houstonians through its 12 food pantries, 11 senior day sites, and home delivery routes. Target Hunger provides a holistic approach to hunger relief. The agency focuses on rebuilding and strengthening family units by empowering our clients to become self-sufficient through programs and services.
