Targeting Natural Killer Cell Mediated Cytotoxicity in Cancer Drug Pipeline Update 2015
NEW YORK, June 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes of the innate immune system that are involved in early defenses against both allogeneic (nonself) cells and autologous cells undergoing various forms of stress, such as infection with viruses, bacteria, or parasites or malignant transformation. Although NK cells do not express classical antigen receptors of the immunoglobulin gene family, such as the antibodies produced by B cells or the T cell receptor expressed by T cells, they are equipped with various receptors whose engagement allows them to discriminate between target and nontarget cells.
There are today 234 companies plus partners developing 282 targeting natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity drugs in 1052 developmental projects in cancer. In addition, there are 2 suspended drugs and the accumulated number of ceased drugs over the last years amount to another 90 drugs. Targeting Natural Killer Cell Mediated Cytotoxicity In Cancer Drug Pipeline Update lists all drugs and gives you a progress analysis on each one of them. Identified drugs are linked to 170 different targets. All included targets have been cross-referenced for the presence of mutations associated with human cancer. To date 165 out of the 167 studied drug targets so far have been recorded with somatic mutations. The software application lets you narrow in on these mutations and links out to the mutational analysis for each of the drug targets for detailed information. All drugs targets are further categorized on in the software application by 37 classifications of molecular function and with pathway referrals to BioCarta, KEGG, NCI-Nature and NetPath.
