Taste of the NFL Founder Named James Beard Humanitarian of the Year
Wayne Kostroski recognized for raising awareness and dollars for hunger relief
NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- As the food/beverage industry bestowed its highest honors at the James Beard Foundation Awards last night, they paused to acknowledge the contributions to aid hunger relief by Wayne Kostroski, founder of the Taste of the NFL (www.TasteoftheNFL.com) and the 2010 James Beard Humanitarian of the Year.
Attendees of the annual James Beard ceremony observed as Drew Nieporent, renowned New York restaurateur and long-time supporter of TNFL, introduced Kostroski as a true humanitarian. The prestigious award recognizes an individual or organization whose work in the realm of food has improved the lives of others and benefitted society at large.
"Like a winning coach, Wayne is loyal and true to his values, motivating and inspiring everyone to give their very best," said Nieporent. "His can-do attitude raises the spirits of all who work with him. The Taste of the NFL is the best party at the Super Bowl, because it has the best leader; and I am proud that my restaurants have participated in the event throughout the years."
Under Kostroski's leadership, TNFL has raised more than $10 million for local and national food banks and has inspired countless others to join the mission of kicking hunger. It started in 1992 in Minnesota, the site of Super Bowl XXVI, when he founded TNFL to create a national platform to address the needs of the hungry and homeless. The group's Party with a Purpose® has become a coveted event of Super Bowl week, taking place the night before game day. It brings together top chefs (one from each NFL city) and a current or alumni player from each NFL team to feed and entertain guests throughout the evening. All proceeds support local and national hunger organizations.
Help Generate 20,000 Donations in 20 Days to Feed the Hungry
As a reflection of Kostroski's honor and to celebrate its 20th season, TNFL is asking people to go online (www.TasteoftheNFL.com) in the next 20 days and make a donation—every $1 raised helps provide seven meals for men, women and children. The goal: generate 20,000 donations that can be immediately disbursed to help feed Americans who have turned to their local food shelves for assistance.
