Team USA Shows Off Professional Lumberjack Chops At STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series World Championship

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's  greatest pro lumberjack athletes representing 24 nations converged on Stuttgart, Germany for the STIHL^® TIMBERSPORTS^® Series World Championship Oct. 25-26.  In front of 5,000 international fans, U.S. Champion Matt Cogar placed second in the World Championship individual competition and Team USA finished second also in the Team Relay competition, setting a new team record at 54 seconds flat. The 2013 U.S. World Championship relay team included Arden Cogar Jr. (cousin of Matt Cogar) from West Hamlin, W.Va., Paul Cogar (father of Matt Cogar) from Diana, W.Va., Dave Jewett from Pittsford, NY, and David Moses of Snoqualmie, Wash. This year's Collegiate Champion, Ben Hansen from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, also represented the U.S. in the relay competition as a part of the international rookie relay team.

In the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series World Championship individual competition, 24 national champions chopped and sawed through six professional lumberjack disciplines, the hot saw, single buck, springboard chop, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop to determine the world's best lumberjack athlete. Brad DeLosa of Australia won three of six disciplines, walking away with the World Championship title.. Matt Cogar of the U.S. placed second, Martin Komarek of Czechoslovakia placed third and Germany's Robert Ebner came in fourth.

In the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS World Championship Team Relay competition, New Zealand took the top spot over the U.S. by just over half a second with Australia walking away with the bronze. Team USA set a new team record finishing the relay event in 54 seconds flat.
