TechAmerica Foundation Celebrates Leaders in Technology & Government

WASHINGTON, June 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The  TechAmerica Foundation celebrated leaders in technology and government last night at a dinner at the Ronald Reagan Building that included Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), U.S. CIO Steve VanRoekel and CACI Executive Chairman Dr. J.P. (Jack) London. 

Rep. McCaul, receiving the House Legislator of the Year Award from the TechAmerica Foundation, told dinner attendees, "The cybersecurity threat is real and Congress needs to act."  That's one reason why he founded the Cybersecurity Caucus to educate fellow legislators. 

"We're great at offensive cyber technology, but where we're weak is defensive cyber protection," added Rep. McCaul.  "Technology is the solution to all our problems."

U.S. CIO Steve VanRoekel, named the Government Technology Executive of the Year, thanked the attendees and the partnership between government and industry.  He is working to "give those people around us (the government's IT staff) the permission to go do amazing things."

Receiving the Corporate Leadership Award, Dr. London discussed how "good character is the single most important ingredient for personal and business success."

The dinner also feted the Olympus Corporation's ENDOEYE FLEX 3D videoscope, a laparoscopic device that allows medical professionals to view and analyze anatomy more precisely through the use of 3D technology.  The TechAmerica Foundation named the videoscope as the Breakthrough Technology of the Year at last month's American Technology Awards (ATAs) Showcase, recognizing outstanding achievement in technology.

Earlier in the day, the TechAmerica Foundation presented a joint Senate Legislator of the Year Award to Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) at the TechAmerica board meeting and will present it to Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) next week.  TechAmerica also praised the 25 recipients of its TechAmerica Congressional Tech Leader Awards, who were presented their awards in a ceremony at the Rayburn House Office Building earlier in the week.  The list of those honorees is posted at: http://www.techamerica.org/techamerica-selects-25-congressional-members-for-the-congressional-tech-award/.
