DALLAS, June 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, announced today that it engaged a Technology and Marketing company to evaluate technology and service attributes of Securus Technologies versus those of former industry leader Global Tel Link (GTL).
"We engaged an independent third-party firm outside of Securus Technologies that had technology and marketing expertise to complete an assessment of the Securus and GTL calling platforms and product sets," according to Richard A. ("Rick") Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Securus Technologies. "We preferred to go head-to-head and offered GTL a 'technology bake-off' whereby we would present our product sets to an impartial technology expert but GTL did not respond to our bake off challenge for obvious reasons. So we determined that the next best option would be to work with an outside firm that had expertise in technology evaluations by way of customer interviews – customers that had experience with Securus and GTL products. We now present our consultant's findings," said Smith.

"We used the attributes noted above of Quality, Reliability, Technology Up-To-Date, and Meeting Promises because facilities told our consultant that those attributes were most important to them," noted Smith.
A facility customer that has had both Securus most recently and GTL previously as their services provider had this quote:
"Our previous provider was in the ice age – and Securus is like the new millennium, one extreme to the other. Securus is head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to innovation and looking at new products. Thinking outside of the box because there is a lot of opportunities out there."
"That quote from a facility customer captures the intent and spirit of our technology bake-off challenge, and the technology/marketing survey work that we engaged in with an outside consultant," concluded Smith.
