Tecogen Announces Turnkey Sale to Philadelphia's Independence Visitor Center

WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen Inc., announced today the sale of a turnkey installation for a 75 kW and 20 ton combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) system at the Independence Visitor Center in Philadelphia, PA. The Independence Visitor Center is located on Independence National Historical Park, which is home to the national historical treasures of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The Independence Visitor Center is the primary point of orientation for the Independence National Historic Park and is a 50,000 square foot facility and hosts more than two-million visitors annually.  In its efforts to help Philadelphia become the most sustainable city in the nation, the Independence Visitor Center has taken valuable steps in reducing its carbon footprint.

After receiving a $1 million matching grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, the  Independence Visitor Center Corporation (IVCC) and PGW worked together to upgrade the infrastructure of the Independence Visitor Center which includes the 75 kW Tecogen cogeneration system and a 20 ton absorption chiller.  This project will not only help reduce their overall carbon footprint by decreasing energy usage, but will also significantly reduce their energy bill, further advancing operations to obtaining a silver LEED certification.
