Telmex Technological Institute Highlighted As a Pioneer in Innovation and Digital Inclusion During the ITU and World Bank Sponsored Athgo's 5th Global Innovation Forum
WASHINGTON, May 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Due to its vast knowledge and experience in promoting digital inclusion and development throughout Latin America, the Telmex Technological Institute's work was highlighted during the ITU and World Bank sponsored Athgo's 5th Global Innovation Forum in Washington D.C. Athgo's Global Innovation Forums bring together young people from around the world to facilitate outcome-oriented discussions with international decision-makers, corporate executives, diplomats, and area experts leading to constructive enterprise concepts.
This year, Telmex's pioneering achievements in the field of digital inclusion around student development and training throughout Mexico was highlighted. The Telmex Technological institute (INTTELMEX) is designed to train specialists in the field of information technology and helps 355,335 bright Mexican students through a scholarship program that provides free access to broadband, computer equipment, and a monthly financial stipend.

Some examples of Telmex projects showcased include:
- A newly formed alliance with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT/OCW) for the development of online higher education, as well as an educational collaboration agreement.
- Over 20 years ago, Telmex created a housing program for underserved students in various parts of Mexico. Their program funded community centers with the most advanced equipment, Internet access and training to help enhance the education of students.
- Telmex Digital Libraries provide free access to information and technology in highly populated low-income areas where trained professionals work with students and families to help them navigate online.
- Digital-TelmexHub Village is a digital technology innovation space where human networks interact face to face, equipped with the latest technology and a permanent 10Gb connection aimed at young people and adults that are interested in fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship, sharing their knowledge and their skills.
- The TELMEX Center for Technology and Innovation is a year-round program where young innovators and entrepreneurs can develop projects in an environment of collaboration, supported by the latest technology, scholarships, and tutorial supervision with the end goal of helping them create small companies in technology fields.
