Tennis Pros Teach Skills to Area Troops & Their Families
Joint Base Andrews Hosts Day of Free Clinics with 'Thanking our Troops through Tennis Event'
JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md., Sept. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On October 5th, 2013, area troops will be taking their skills not to the front line, but to the baseline, brushing up on their tennis games with some of the world's best players. It's called Thanking our Troops through Tennis, or T3, a program that brings tennis pros to military bases, allowing soldiers and their families, to learn all aspects of the game of tennis from world-class players and coaches. Military families are invited to register at [email protected].
"It's a great opportunity to show support for our military families, with a positive and healthy activity," says Dick Stockton, tennis champion and T3 founder. Stockton – once ranked as the eighth best tennis player in the world – will be joined by former Wimbledon Champion Stan Smith, International Tennis Hall of Fame member Gigi Fernandez and Wimbledon Ladies Doubles Champion Joanne Russell. They will conduct clinics throughout the day (9:00am - 2:30pm), outside the West Fitness Center at Joint Base Andrews. The pros will also play an exhibition match to close the event at 2:45pm. In the event of rain, the clinics and match will be held inside the West Fitness Center.
The USO and the USTA are also participating in the event. The USO will provide lunch and a gift for all the participants, and, following the event, the USTA will offer ongoing programs for kids at the base.
T3 is an initiative of the non-profit entity Blue Sky Foundation, Inc., created to show support for our troops, by holding tennis clinics at military bases around the country.
