Texans for Saving Our Hunting Heritage Reacts to Lawsuit Filed Against Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- "Texans for Saving Our Hunting Heritage regrets the lawsuit filed by members of the deer breeding industry against Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
"In spite of active participation by numerous deer breeding organizations in the construction and approval of the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) management plan and the August 19 emergency order, breeders are now opposed to the agreed-upon increased mandatory testing and restrictions on breeder deer movement.
"This lawsuit highlights deer breeders' unwillingness to be accountable for their actions in regard to risks posed to wild populations through the concentration, widespread movement and subsequent liberation of pen-raised breeder deer to intermingle with wild deer.
"Since the discovery of CWD in a captive deer in June, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's actions have been guided by science, caution, and the utmost concern for Texas' wild deer herds, hunting markets and rural economies.
"While the recent euthanization of the index herd at Texas Mountain Ranch in Medina County is the appropriate response to CWD, it is nonetheless a sad day for all of us who love Texas wildlife.
"We stand by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's decisions in response to CWD and support continued prudent regulatory protocols."
