Texas Community Health Plans Help Families Start the School Year Healthy
Community-Based Health Plans Partner with Local Organizations to Support the Health and Well-Being of Texas Families
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As students across Texas begin a new school year, the Texas Association of Community Health Plans (TACHP) is encouraging families to prioritize their health and take advantage of the services and resources available through their community health plans and community-based organizations.
TACHP member health plans serve families in communities across Texas, connecting children and parents with preventive care, behavioral health services and other resources designed to help them stay healthy throughout the school year. By partnering with community-based organizations, schools, healthcare providers and other local organizations, TACHP members also help address the broader factors that influence the health and well-being of individuals and families.
"TACHP members support Texas families throughout the year, and the start of a new school year is an important opportunity to make sure children have the care and resources they need to thrive," said Craig Smith, President and CEO of Driscoll Health Plan and Chairman of TACHP. "Our community health plans work alongside trusted community-based organizations to connect families not only with healthcare, but also with local resources that support their overall health and well-being. These partnerships are central to our mission and to the communities we serve."
"Starting the school year healthy can make a meaningful difference for children and their families," said Victoria A. Mora, Chief Executive Officer of Parkland Community Health Plan and Vice Chair of TACHP. "Community health plans across Texas are committed to helping families access affordable, high-quality healthcare while partnering with organizations in their communities to support the whole person and the whole family. We know that health extends beyond the walls of a doctor's office, and strong local partnerships help us better meet families where they are."
TACHP's 11 member health plans serve more than 1.6 million Texans across the state. As the school year gets underway, parents and caregivers are encouraged to check with their health plan, healthcare providers and trusted community organizations about available services and resources, including:
- Back-to-school physicals and immunizations
- Vision and dental screenings
- Hearing assessments
- Age-appropriate wellness checkups
- Behavioral health services and screening for anxiety, depression and other concerns
- Connections to community-based organizations and local resources that support the broader needs of individuals and families
- Support and strategies for managing school-related stress and promoting overall wellness
Through partnerships with community-based organizations, TACHP members work to strengthen the health of the communities they serve and support the holistic needs of individuals and families. These partnerships help connect Texans with resources close to home and recognize that physical health, behavioral health and social and community needs are interconnected.
Families should contact their health plan or healthcare provider to learn more about benefits, services and resources available to them.
